"Lieutenant E.T. Waugh, The Royal Canadian Regiment, son of Mrs. Waugh, Dublin, and of Melville Cove, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, who was severely wounded, was a member of the South Irish Yeomanry (old days), and the Black Watch, and was well known in Dublin hockey circles as a member of Richmond Hockey Club. Three of his brothers are serving:- Second Lieutenant C. S. Waugh, King's Own Yorkshire L. I. (Hon. Sec. Irish Hockey Union and Irish Hockey International), Lieut. H. R. Waugh, Canadian Force, and Sergt. R. D. Waugh, Canadian Intelligence Department. Supported by his platoon sergeant, he silenced and captured a German machine-gun which was giving them a great deal of trouble, killing all its crew, when he received his wounds."
